Critical in that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating effect on the nation's defence or economic security. These are: telecommunications, electrical power systems, gas and oil storage and transportation, banking and finance, transportation, water supply systems, emergency services, and continuity of government. Information-infrastructure belongs to this as well. The term "critical infrastructures" incorporates all organisations and establishments that are of vital importance to our society. Their breakdown or disturbance would lead to severe bottlenecks of supply, to a considerable disruption of the public safety or to other dramatic results
