Crude Tar
Crude Tar : A bituminous product, viscous or liquid, resulting from the destructive distillation of organic materials. The word `tar' must always be preceded by the name of the matter from which it is produced: coal, shale, peat, vegetable matter, etc. Its mode of production should also be indicated. The following would be proper descriptions of the tars to which the present tests will normally be applied: "High Temperature Coal Tar (Horizontal Retort)", "High Temperature Coal Tar (Vertical Retort)", "High Temperature Coal Tar (Coke Oven)", "Low Temperature Coal Tar" and "Oil Gas Tar" ("Carburetted Water-gas Tar")
