Crystal Detector : A device consisting of a fine wire, `cat's whisker', in contact with one of certain crystalline minerals such as galena or a semiconductor such as germanium which offers a higher resistance to a P. D. applied in one direction than to a P. D. of reverse polarity. It thus acts as a rectifier to applied oscillatory voltages
