Curie 15 : (Nucl Phys; Symb: (1) The basic unit used to describe the intensity of radioactivity in a sample of material. The curie is equal to 37 billion disintegrations per second, which is approx the rate of decay of 1 gram of radium. (2) A quantity of any nuclide having 1 curie of radioactivity. Note: Named for Marie and Pierre Curie, who discovered radium in 1898
