Data Dictionary 1 : (ICT) A computer programming term. A 'data dictionary' describes the structure of data 'items' to be used within a software application. Software development teams need this because everyone must use the same data formats when reading or writing data. For example a 'data dictionary' for a team making an action game might have an entry like this: NAME DATA TYPE Monster, text, Hit Point, Number, Lifetime, Number, Alive, Boolean. The data dictionary item above is describing the format of a piece of data called 'monster'
