Door, Fire-Resisting :

A door, which together with its frame, is capable of satisfying for a stated period of time the criteria of fire resistance with respect to collapse and flame penetration and excessive temperature rise. (BS 4422(2)) Timber doors can be used for up to 60 mins but over this steel or composite constructions are necessary. The fit of the door in the frame is important and the hinges must be non-combustible and have a high melting point (800oC). Automatic self-closing devices are normally stipulated but rising butts (except for fire-check doors) are not allowed
