EA 08 : Environment Agency. Leading public body responsible for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. An agency of the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). It tackles flooding and pollution incidents. It also makes sure industry keeps its impacts on air, land and water quality to a minimum. It cleans up rivers, coastal waters and contaminated land. It looks after fish and wildlife habitats. Has responsibility for warning public of flood risks and advising on planning issues and flood defence
