Earth 1 : (1) the conducting mass of the earth or of any conductor in direct electrical connection therewith. (2) A connection, whether accidental or intentional, between a conductor and the earth. (3) (verb) To connect any conductor with the general mass of the earth. A connection to the general mass of the earth by means of an earth electrode. An object is said to be earthed when it is electrically connected to an earth electrode, and a conductor is said to be solidly earthed when it is electrically connected to an earth electrode without a fuse, switch, circuit-breaker, resistor or reactor in the earth connection
