Earthquake 12 : Natural Disaster. A sudden motion of the earth caused by faulting or volcanic activity. Earthquakes can occur in the near surface rocks or down to as deep as 700km below the surface. The actual area of the earthquake is called the focus; the point on the earth's surface above the focus is called the epicenter
