Earthquake Engineering : Disaster Management. The field of earthquake engineering is defined as encompassing man's efforts to cope with the harmful effects of earthquakes It may be subdivided into three parts; (1) a study of those aspects of seismology and geology that are pertinent to the problem, (2) an analysis of the dynamic behavior of structures under the action of earthquakes, and (3) the development and application of appropriate methods of planning, designing and constructing of man-made structures, installations or systems to resist earthquakes. It overlaps with Earth sciences on one hand and with social scientists, architects and planners, and with industry and government on the other hand
