Emergency Management Australia (EMA) 1 : The Commonwealth Government agency within the Department of Defence with the responsibility of reducing the impact of natural and man-made disasters on the Australian community. Also the lead Federal agency responsible for disaster response. EMA's roles are to: (1) develop, coordinate and support effective national emergency management arrangements; (2) provide advice on emergency management matters to Commonwealth agencies, States and Territories, industry and the international community; and (3) as an agent of the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), coordinate emergency management assistance to countries in Australia's region of interest
