Aerosol 03 : Radiation and Radiological Disasters. (1) (Meteor; Phys) Liquid droplets or solid particles dispersed in air of fine enough particle size (0. 01 to 100 micrometers in diameter) to remain dispersed for an indefinite period of time. A colloidal system in which the air is the continuous phase. Note: Common aerosols in the atmosphere are known as fog, he, smoke, dust, or mist. (2) (Techn) a. A material dispensed from its container as a mist, spray, or foam by a pressurized propellant. b. A method of packaging in which a liquid can be delivered in spray form. This is accomplished by pressurizing the container with a low boiling liquid such as Freon or Propane. Uses include insecticides and room deodorants (space aerosol), and paints or other surface coatings (surface aerosol). Cf: colloid; atomization; fallout; air pollution. Note: Flammable aerosols are con?sidered a Class 1A liquid, which falls under the requirements of the US Federal Hazardous substances Labeling Act
