Endocrine System 2

Endocrine System 2 : Medicine. The endocrine system is a mechanism by which the body's development and functions are controlled and co-ordinated. Chemical substances, hormones, are released into the bloodstream by specialised organs called endocrine glands. Well-known hormones include adrenaline and insulin. The hormones are carried in the blood to the site of action, where they influence function by binding to a receptor. By this mechanism one part of the body can regulate the activity of another. The endocrine system is organised in such a way that the production and release of hormones can be regulated in tune with the body's requirements. When there is no need for a hormone's activity its secretion is down regulated through a feedback loop
