Absolute Pressure 8 : See: Pressure. The actual pressure of a fluid measured with respect to zero pressure in units of force per unit of area as distinct from the pressure of the fluid relative to that of the atmosphere indicated by a pressure gauge. For a fluid whose pressure exceeds that of the atmosphere the absolute pressure is obtained by adding the gauge pressure to the atmospheric pressure (q. v. . For a fluid under vacuum, i. e. a fluid whose pressure is less than that of the atmosphere, the absolute pressure is obtained by subtracting the vacuum gauge pressure from the atmospheric pressure
