Equivalent Sound Level (Leq, LAEQ, LAEQD or LAEQN)

Equivalent Sound Level (Leq, LAEQ, LAEQD or LAEQN) : The level of a constant sound which, in the given situation and time period, has the same average sound energy, as does a timevarying sound. Specifically, equivalent sound level is the energy-averaged sound pressure level of the individual A-weighted sound pressure levels occurring during the time interval. The time interval over which the measurement is taken (or for which the metric is computed) should always be specified. For example, if the time interval is the daytime period (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) then the acronym LAEQD is used. Similarly, if the time interval is the nighttime period (10 p.m. to 7 a.m.) then the acronym LAEQN is used
