European Court of Justice 1 : ECJ is a court of the European Union, independent of other community institutions, whose task is to interpret the European Constitution and other enactments in times of dispute. It can hear cases involving EU treaties and subordinate European legislation brought by, or against, the Council of Ministers or the European Commission. It can also provide preliminary rulings to national courts on the clarification of community law
