Evaporation 01

Evaporation 01 :

(Phys) The process by which a liquid is changed into the vapor state and mixed into the air or other surrounding gases. Vaporization of a liquid at temperatures below its boiling point. See also: Heat of Vaporization. Cf: Sublimation. Note: Except for highly volatile liquids, evaporation is a slow process and requires more heat than vaporization at the boiling point of a given liquid. a pound of water, for example, requires 1440 btu to evaporate at 86of, but only 972 btu to vaporize at 212of. The heat absorbed in evaporation is given up during condensation, the reverse process
