(Phys) The process by which a liquid is changed into the vapor state and mixed into the air or other surrounding gases. Vaporization of a liquid at temperatures below its boiling point. Note: Except for highly volatile liquids, evaporation is a slow process and requires more heat than vaporization at the boiling point of a given liquid. a pound of water, for example, requires 1440 btu to evaporate at 86of, but only 972 btu to vaporize at 212of.
