Afterglow 1
Afterglow 1 : (1) (Phys) Visible radiation, usually decaying, emitted temporarily after removal of external excitation. Examples are the glow from a gas-discharge lamp or luminescent screen after excitation has ceased. Cf: phosphorescence. (2) (Comb) Lingering visible radiation emitted by solid-phase combustion after flaming has ceased or an external flame has been removed. See: Gloxing Combustion
