AFUE 2 :
An abbreviation for annual fuel utilization efficiency, a measure of the efficiency of a gas furnace. The rating is designed to represent the percentage of the fuel energy actually delivered as heat energy, averaged over the course of a typical heating season. The actual calculation is quite complex, taking many properties of the furnace into account. Older furnaces have ratings of 60% AFUE or even lower; the newest high-efficiency furnaces are rated in the 90%-95% AFUE range.
