Expansion Trunk
Expansion Trunk : A trunk or vertical extension of the tanks of an oil tanker carrying oil in bulk so that it may act as a feeder to keep the tank always full, thus avoiding the dangerous movement of oil in a tank not completely full. A cargo tank of a bulk oil carrier cannot be entirely filled owing to the necessity to allow for expansion, due to increase of temperature. The expansion trunk runs the whole length of the cargo tanks centrally, is about 2. 4 m to 3. 1 m deep, and about half the beam of the ship in width. It holds about 15% of the oil cargo
