Explosibility Tests 1

Explosibility Tests 1 : Laboratory scale tests for dusts. Several types of test apparatus are used since different dusts have a wide range of dispersability and different ways for forming the dust cloud are necessary. In Great Britain three types are used; the Vertical Tube apparatus, suitable for all types of dust; Horizontal Tube apparatus, for all types of carbonaceous materials, not metal dusts; and the Inflammator, in which both arbonaceous and metal dusts may be tested and which is particularly useful for coarse or fluffy materials. The dusts are classified into 2 groups: Dusts which ignited and propagated flame in the test apparatus, Dusts which did not propagate flame in the test apparatus. The following properties can also be measured if required: Minimum explosible concentration - Vertical tube apparatus. Minimum ignition energy - Vertical tube apparatus (modified). Maximum explosion pressure and maximum rate of pressure rise - Vertical Tube apparatus (strengthened). Minimum ignition temperature - Godbert-Greenwald Furnace apparatus (modified). Maximum permissible oxygen concentration - Godbert-Greenwald apparatus (modified). See also: Vertical Tube apparatus, Horizontal Tube apparatus, Inflammator, and Godbert-Greenwald Furnace apparatus
