Explosives 1 : (1) Legal definition: substances used or manufactured with a view to producing a practical effect by explosion or by pyrotechnical effect, or any other substance which has been required by the administration to be treated as an explosive. The term `explosive' includes fireworks, fuses, fog signals, rockets, percussion caps, detonators, cartridges, ammunition of all classes, and every adaptation of an explosive as defined above. (2) Technical definition: any substance capable of developing a sudden high pressure by the rapid formation of large volumes of gases at high temperatures. In all explosive processes at least part of the products must be gaseous, so as to he able to produce effects by expansion
