Failure Envelope
Failure Envelope :
Boundary of stress conditions associated with rock failure, as defined in shear stress versus normal stress space. Typically the slope of the failure envelope d/d n is steepest at low normal stress (n). The slope is also referred to as the "pressure dependence" of failure strength. See Lockner and Beeler (2002, p. 508)
