False Alarm 2

False Alarm 2 : (1) (Fire Pr) An alarm for which there is no fire. Note: False alarms may be acciden?tal, when an alarm box operates because of a circuit malfunction, or malicious, when someone deliberately actuates an alarm for individual reasons. A needless alarm is one based on evidence that later proves to be unfounded, such as steam mistaken for smoke or a strange odor thought to be coming from burning material. The latter type is usually called a good intent false alarm and for statistical purposes is counted separately from malicious false alarms. A no fire alarm includes smoke scares and accidental alarms. A malicious false alarm includes bomb scares (no bomb). (2) (For Serv) Reported smoke or fire that does not require suppression, such as from controlled brush burning, chimney smoke, false smoke, and the like. (3) (Police) A complaint or report that proves to be groundless
