Aiming Off

Aiming Off : A method used by navigators to address the problem of lateral drift. Rather than take a bearing and head straight for a target, a navigator may decide to "aim off" so that they deliberately measure a bearing to take them to one side of their target. Once they have walked the measured distance, the navigator will then know whether they will need to turn 90 degrees and walk to their left or right in order to reach their target
