Flood 03 : (n.) (1-a) The rising of a body of water and its overflowing onto normally dry land. Syn: Alluvion, Deluge, Inundation. Four Types, See: Debacle; Flash Flood, Flashflood; Noachian Deluge, Noah and The Flood, Noah's Flood, The Flood (Biblical); Floodhead. Type of: Geological Phenomenon: A natural phenomenon involving the structure or composition of the earth. (1-b) The act of flooding; filling to overflowing. Syn: Flowage. Type of: Filling: The act of filling something. (1-c) The occurrence of incoming water (between a low tide and the following high tide). Syn: Flood Tide, Rising Tide. Ant: Ebbtide: The tide while water is flowing out. Type of: Tide: The periodic rise and fall of the sea level under the gravitational pull of the moon. (1-d) A large flow. Syn: Outpouring, Overflow. Types: Effusion: Flow under pressure. Type of: Flow, Stream: The act of flowing or streaming; continuous progression. (v.) (1-a) Cover with liquid, usually water. Four Types: See: Flow; Deluge, Inundate, Submerge; Drench, Swamp; Lap, Lave, Wash. Type of: Cover, Spread Over: Form a cover over. (1-b) Fill quickly beyond capacity; as with a liquid. Syn: Deluge, Inundate, Swamp. Type of: Fill, Fill Up, Make Full: Make full, also in a metaphorical sense. (1-c) Become filled to overflowing. Type of: Fill, Fill Up: Become full. (2) Light that is a source of artificial illumination having a broad beam; used in photography. Syn: Flood Lamp, Floodlight, Photoflood. Type of: Light, Light Source: Any device serving as a source of illumination
