Folio


Folio : In traditional legal practice, a unit of quantity for the words in a legal document. In the U.S., a folio is 100 words; in Britain it is 72 or 90 words, depending on the type of document. In the days before mechanical copying, clerks were paid by the folio to copy legal documents. The word is from the Latin?folium, leaf, and originally referred to a page; apparently the unit once represented the number of words on a page
