Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) 2 : The United Nations specialised agency that aims to raise levels of nutrition, to improve the production and distribution of all agricultural and food products from farms, forests and fisheries, and to eliminate hunger. It promotes improved soil and water management, better crop yields, healthier livestock and sound agricultural investment. It has an Office of Special Relief Operations (OSRO) for disaster situations and mobilising resources. See also: World Food Programme
