Forest 1 : (n.) The trees and other plants in a large densely wooded area. Syn: Wood, Woods. Type of: Botany, Flora, Vegetation: All the plant life in a particular region or period. (1-b) Land that is covered with trees and shrubs. Syn: Timber, Timberland, Woodland. Five Types, See: Greenwood; Riparian Forest; Silva, Sylva; Tree Farm; Pinetum. Type of: (1) Biome: A major biotic community characterized by the dominant forms of plant life and the prevailing climate. (2) Dry Land, Earth, Ground, Land, Solid Ground, Terra Firma: The solid part of the earth's surface. (v.) (1) Establish a forest on previously unforested land. Syn: Afforest. Types: (1) Re-Afforest: Re-establish a forest after clear-cutting or fire, etc. (2) Reforest: Forest anew. Type of: Plant, Set: Put or set (seeds, seedlings, or plants) into the ground
