Formation Damage 1
Formation Damage 1 : A reduction of permeability in the immediate area surrounding the well bore. It is caused by the invasion of foreign fluids or solids into the exposed section adjacent to the well bore or by depositing of clays or wax already in the section. May also include permanent damage when water based drilling muds are used in areas of moisture sensitive shales or using excessive pump pressures on fragile formations. (Bul 10C)
