Frequency Analysis 3 : Statistical analysis of extreme values to calculate the exceedance probability of a certain value. In hydrology and meteorology the highest annual values are usually taken as input for frequency analysis. Example: Selection of annual maximum discharges in a continuous daily discharge series (1990-1995) at the Cologne gauge at the river Rhine. In this example hydrological years (1st November to 31st October) were chosen. For an extreme value analysis a time series of at least 20 to 30 years is needed
