Air Transport Association of America (ATA) : The trade and service organization for the U.S. Scheduled airlines. The ATA acts on behalf of the airlines to serve the Government and the public in activities ranging from improvement in air safety to planning for the airlines' role in national defense. The ATA plays a leading role in encouraging Government to cut red tape that hampers foreign trade. In the cargo field, the ATA works with the airlines, the Government and shippers in developing improved standards and techniques in all phases of air cargo.
