Gamma Rays 09 : (Nuel Phys) High-energy, short-wavelength electromagnetic radiation. Gamma radiation frequently accompanies alpha and beta emission and always accompanies fission. Note: Gamma rays are highly penetrating and are best stopped by dense materials, such as lead. Gamma rays are essentially similar to x-rays, but are usually more energetic and are nuclear in origin.
