GEIS, DoD-GEIS : Global Emerging Infections Surveillance and Response System. DoDGEIS is designed to strengthen the prevention of, surveillance of and response to infectious diseases that are a threat to military personnel and families, reduce medical readiness, or present a risk to national security. In 1996 the mission of the Department of Defense (DoD) expanded to include support of global surveillance, training, research, and response to emerging infectious disease threats.
