Geosyncline : Natural Disaster. A downwarping of the Earth's crust, either elongate or basin-like, measured in scores of kilometers, in which sedimentary and volcanic rocks accumulate to thicknesses of thousands of meters. Not in current use since the development of plate tectonic theory
