(Abb: g) An elementary unit of mass in the cgs system, equal to the weight of one cubic centimeter of pure water at 40C. One gram is 1/ 1000 of a kilogram and itself contains 1000 milligrams. One g = 0. 03528 ounce (avoirdupois); 1 ounce = 28. 35 g. A US dime weighs about 2 grams. The British and French spelling is gramme. Note: To convert grams to ounces, multiply by 20 and divide by 567, or for a fair approximation, simply divide by 30. Reverse this procedure to convert ounces to grams
