Gaseous constituents of the atmosphere, both natural and anthropogenic, that absorb and emit radiation of thermal infrared radiation emitted by the Earth's surface, the atmosphere itself, and by clouds. Comment: This is the definition of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
