Gutenberg Discontinuity 1
Gutenberg Discontinuity 1 : The seismic velocity discontinuity marking the core-mantle boundary (CMB) at which the velocity of P waves drops from about 13.7 to about 8.0 km/s and that of S waves from about 7.3 to 0 km/s. The CMB reflects the change from the solid mantle material to the fluid outer core. See: Fig. 2.53 ??? in Chapter 2 of this Manual and Lay (2002)
