Hazard reflects a potential threat to humans as well as the impact of an event on society and the environment.hazards are in part socially constructed by people's perceptions and their experiences. Moreover, people contribute to, exacerbate, and modify hazards. Thus, hazards can vary by culture, gender, race, socioeconomic status, and political structure as well (Mitchell and Cutter 1997, 9-10).
