Heat Flow 3

Heat Flow 3 :

Natural Disaster. In geophysics, heat flow usually means the rate of heat flowing from the Earth's interior per unit area of the surface. It is measured near the Earth's surface as the product of thermal conductivity and vertical temperature gradient. The average heat flow of the Earth is estimated to be about 2 ?cal cm-2 sec-1 , corresponding to about 84 mW m-2 (milli-Watt per square meter) in SI units. The heat flow conditions have a great influence on the rheological properties and thus on the depth of the brittle-ductile transition and the occurrence of earthquakes in the in the Earth crust.
