Henkel : Also named Raecke, after the inventor. A process for making terephthalic acid from potassium benzoate by disproportionation: 2C6H5(COOK) = C6H4 (COOK)2 + C6H6. reaction is conducted in the melt, in the presence of carbon dioxide under pressure, catalyzed by zinc or cadmium compounds.
