American Society of Safety Engineers ASSE 2 : A professional safety organization. Its members manage, supervise and consult on safety, health, and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education. Their web site is http: //www.asse.org/. Additional Info: ASSE organizes the committees that develop and maintain several ANSI standards and publishes the final product of these consensus processes. Examples of those most germane (relevant) to hazardous materials are: (1) Eye and Face Protection, Z87; (2) Practice for Occupational and Educational Eye and Face Protection Devices, ANSI Z87.1 - 2003; (3) Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Training, Z390; (4) Accepted Practices for Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Training Programs, ANSI Z390.1 - 2006. ASSE is also represented on other consensus standard committees such as the NFPA Technical Committee which handles NFPA 30 - Flammable and Combustible Liquids. MSDS Relevance: ASSE has technical publications and safety standards (usually noted as ANSI standards) that may occasionally be referenced on some MSDS's.
