Hydrocracking

Hydrocracking :

A general term for any catalytic hydrogenation process for upgrading heavy petroleum fractions to produce fractions of lower molecular weight which can be used as fuels. The vaporized feed is mixed with hydrogen at high temperature and pressure and allowed to react in a fixed- or fluidized-catalyst bed. The forerunner of today's hydrocracking processes was the Bergius process
