Impairment 04 : A shutdown of fire protection equipment or systems or portion thereof. The two types of impairments are as follows: (a) Emergency, a condition where fire protection systems or equipment or a portion thereof is out of order due to an unexpected occurrence, such as a ruptured sprinkler pipe, or device or component failure; (b) Preplanned, a condition where a fire protection system or equipment or a portion thereof is out of service due to work that has been planned in advance, such as revisions to the water supply or sprinkler system piping
