Impedance Contrast :
The ratio of the impedances vρ at the disontinuity (or interface) between two adjacent media: v1ρ1/v2ρ2. It largely controls, besides the incidence angle, the refaction angle, the reflection and transmission coefficients at the discontinuity. For the ratio of the amplitudes A1 and A2 of an acoustic wave group travelling through two adjacent media (neglecting geometric spreading and attenuation) holds A1/A2 = [(v2ρ2)/( v1ρ1) 1/2
