Isherwood System 2

Isherwood System 2 : A method of construction of ships patented by Sir Joseph Isherwood in 1908 and sometimes called the longitudinal system, in which the main framing runs fore and aft. The system was modified later in 1928, by the adoption of the bracketless arrangement. Prior to the advent of the Isherwood method the transverse framing system was almost universally employed. Nearly all the large tankers carrying oil in bulk are now built on the Isherwood method, for which it is particularly suitable, also ships intended for carrying grain in bulk
