Jettison 01
Jettison 01 : (Insur) To throw part of the cargo or gear of a vessel overboard to lighten the load and save the vessel. Note: The loss is usually apportioned. The owner of the jettisoned goods is entitled to a general average, i. e. , his loss is shared by the owners of the vessel and the owners of the cargo that was not thrown over. Sacrificed cargo that sinks is called jetsam; that which floats and which may be cast up on shore is called flotsam
