Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP)


Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) : (1) The probability of a specified magnitude of a natural event being exceeded in any year. (2) A measure of the likelihood (expressed as a probability) of a flood reaching or exceeding a particular magnitude. A 1% (AEP) flood has a 1% (or 1 in 100) chance of occurring or being exceeded at a location in any year. See also: Average Recurrence Interval
