Life Net 1 : (Fire Pr) (1) A circular canvas tarpaulin stretched on a folding metal hoop or frame with springs, held by six to eight firemen, used to catch and cushion the impact of persons jumping from burning buildings. (2) = (Brit) jumping sheet. Note: Life nets were originally made of rope. Nets are usually considered practical for jumps of up to four stories. Although successful jumps have been made from up to eight stories, the probability of injury increases above the fourth floor
