Lignite 2


Lignite 2 : A collective term designating a broad group of naturally occurring amorphous, acidic materials derived form decayed vegetation, e.g., leonardite. These materials are obtained by strip mining from selected lignite deposits. The active compound is humic acid. Lignites, which may or may not be combined with chemical compounds such as sodium or potassium hydroxide and/or chromates, are used as thinners, emulsifiers, and for fluid loss control. (Bul D11)
